The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) has selected the University of Tennessee as the award winner for best "Single Day Attendance Promotion" for Tennessee men's basketball "Keep the Blue Out" human orange and white checkerboard design.
"I am proud of our marketing staff's hard work and creativity. It is important that UTAD administration continues to be fan focused in our promotions and keep our supportive and spirited fans excited about Tennessee athletics," said Mike Hamilton, men's athletics director.
UT's marketing department did not pull this feat alone, the teamwork with HOST Communications and hard work from its employees allowed for the checkerboard to be formed.
HOST acquired East Tennessee Natural Gas to sponsor the 10,000 T-shirts needed to fill the lower level of Thompson-Boling Arena, and worked along side UTAD to communicate to Vol fans about the exciting promotion.
"Our marketing staff has worked hard all year to get Vol fans excited about men.s basketball and all of the successful sports at Tennessee. We are thankful to our partners at HOST Communications for helping us make the orange and white checkerboard such a success," said Chris Fuller, assistant athletic director for marketing and sales.
Tennessee received their award during the 15th Annual NACMA Convention June 20-23 in New Orleans, La. NACMA is the first organization of its kind to provide educational and networking opportunities; enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics; and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of athletics marketing administrators.
