ARENCIBIA NAMED TO LOUISVILLE SLUGGER ALL-AMERICA TEAM

The 2006 Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-America baseball teams were announced Friday by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, and Tennessee catcher J.P. Arencibia earned second-team honors. The Louisville Slugger acclaim marks the second All-America award garnered by the sophomore this season, as he was also honored by the College Baseball Foundation.
Arencibia has started all 122 games of his career, and he batted .352 with a team-high 52 RBIs this season. He tied for the team lead with 11 home runs, and now has 25 career homers. He also led the Vols this year with 17 doubles, 126 total bases and a .583 slugging percentage.
The Miami, Fla., native also recently earned an invitation to the 2006 USA Baseball National Team Trials for the second consecutive summer.
Counting last year's Freshman All-America honors, Arencibia has now earned four separate All-America awards during his two-year career. The American Baseball Coaches Association, Baseball America, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Sports Weekly have yet to announce their respective 2006 All-America teams.
Tennessee head coach Rod Delmonico has now seen 22 of his UT players earn 91 separate All-America awards.
