Departing senior first baseman Chris Kemp signed a pre-draft contract with the Texas Rangers organization Monday. The Duluth, Ga., native is slated to start his professional career in the Class-A short-season Northwest League as a member of the Spokane Indians. He reports for spring training June 8.
A Tennessee letterman in 2004 and 2006, Kemp hit .314 this season with 41 RBIs and 11 home runs. A solid defensive infielder, he also boasted a .991 fielding percentage while earning his teammates' respect as a clubhouse leader.
For his career, he hit .297 with 116 hits, 86 RBIs and 13 homers. His career fielding percentage stands at .989.
