2006 NCAA ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS DIVISION I FIELD ANNOUNCED

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee has received its first full-team bid into the NCAA Rowing Championships, the Division I Women's Rowing Committee announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Vols are one of 12 teams selected for this year's event, being held on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. Tennessee has garnered First Eights at-large selections the last three seasons, finishing a program-best eighth at the 2005 event held in Sacramento, Calif.
Four teams from the Pacific-10 Conference made the field, including California, Stanford, Washington and Washington State. The league also will have two Varsity 8+ crews from UCLA and Southern California representing their teams. Also making the field this year are Ivy League members Brown, Princeton and Yale, Big Ten programs Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin along with Big East champ Notre Dame. Minnesota and Boston University also received Varsity 8+ at-large bids.
Tennessee lined up against Ohio State, Princeton, Stanford and Washington State during the spring campaign and faced off against four of the teams in the field last weekend at the Aramark Central/South Region Sprints in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Last year, California won the team title over Virginia to grab its first national championship in the sport.
Rutgers University and the Princeton National Rowing Association are serving as hosts for the event which starts on Friday, May 26 at the Finn Caspersen Rowing Center.
