Following an outstanding performance last Saturday against LSU, Tennessee pitcher Craig Cobb has been named to this week's College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll. The weekly honor roll recognizes the past week's top performers on the national college baseball landscape. Cobb's inclusion marks the first for a UT player this season.
Cobb fired a four-hit, complete-game shutout to lift the Volunteers to a 9-0 victory over LSU Saturday. The junior recorded seven strikeouts to just one walk while improving to 6-1 this season with a team-best 2.66 ERA. The Tigers' four hits were a season-low, and it was Cobb's eighth career complete-game.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native's second complete-game victory in as many weeks also marked UT's first shutout win over LSU in the 55-game history of the series, which dates to 1907. It was the first shutout suffered by LSU since April 1, 2005, when Alabama blanked the Tigers, 4-0, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Based out of Lubbock, Texas, the CBF is dedicated to preserving college baseball history and to recognizing standout teams and individuals who have influenced the collegiate game.
