Tennessee's coaches and staff completed a full day Friday hosting approximately 300 coaches from around the southeast for the annual UT Coaches Clinic.
The guests heard presentations from coaching legends Norm Chow and Willie Jefferies before watching the Vols stage a two-hour practice inside the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center.
Chow just completed his first season as Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator after 32 years coaching on the collegiate level. Jefferies, now retired, became the first African-American head football coach in Division I-A history when Wichita State selected him in 1979.
"I think the clinic has gone very well," head coach Phillip Fulmer said. .Saturday, the TACA (Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association) has its meetings before our scrimmage."
Saturday's scrimmage marks the team's final preparation before the April 8 EdAmerica Orange and White Game, and Fulmer wants the momentum gained thus far to continue.
"If we could just keep taking steps fundamentally; that.s my biggest concern right now," Fulmer said. "We'.re giving good effort and our kids understand and are trying to play hard."
"I'm not too worried about schemes. I know very well there are some things the second team is not going to pick up; maybe the first team is not going to pick it up just yet. Whatever it might be, I want to see us playing like a good college football team is supposed to play.".
The Vols have practices set for Tuesday and Thursday of next week before Saturday's exhibition at Neyland Stadium. Kickoff for the EdAmerica Orange and White game is 2 p.m.
