The Tennessee baseball team plays its first home night game of the 2006 season Tuesday at 7 when it hosts intrastate rival Tennessee Tech at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Volunteers are 14-5 (0-2 SEC) this season and are looking to halt a three-game losing skid before beginning this weekend's three-game home series with Kentucky.
Tennessee Tech comes to Knoxville with a 7-12 record, including a 1-5 mark on the road. However, the Golden Eagles are coming off back-to-back wins over Chicago State last weekend in Cookeville, Tenn.
The Vols lead the all-time series with the Golden Eagles 61-27-1, dating to 1942. Tennessee has won each of its last four meetings against Tech.
BASEBALL VOLS DROP TO 12th IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
After posting a 1-3 record last week, the Tennessee baseball team fell seven spots to No. 12 in the new Baseball America national college rankings, which were released Monday. Mississippi State (15-0) assumed the top spot in the poll after posting a pair of wins over the Vols last weekend in Starkville, Miss.
Tennessee is now the fifth-highest ranked Southeastern Conference team in the Baseball America poll, while a total of seven SEC clubs are listed in the top 25.
