VOLS ANNOUNCE PLANS FOR SEC THROWBACK WEEK
February 13, 2006 | Men's Basketball
Feb. 13, 2006
When the Tennessee Volunteers take the court Saturday, you may have a flashback of years past. The Vols will be donning 1970s era replica jerseys in conjunction with the SEC's "Throwback Week". The Vols will don the Throwback jerseys at Alabama on Feb. 18, Florida on February 22 and at home versus Arkansas on February 25.
To add to the excitement, the University of Tennessee Athletic Department has invited back members of the 1970s basketball teams to participate in the day's festivities, which will include a display of 1970s basketball memorabilia in the concourse. The Vols are also asking fans to bring back the popular "Orange Tie Club" for this game by wearing their favorite orange tie to the game.
Last year, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) announced plans for "Throwback Week". As part of the week, each SEC member school designated a previous year's uniform as its throwback uniform to use in association with the program. Each of the twelve SEC institutions will wear a home and away version of the throwback uniform during the week of February 18-26. The specially-designed uniforms will also be worn for all games of the 2006 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament, March 9-12 in Nashville, Tennessee. The "throwback" theme has been incorporated into many aspects of the SEC Tournament, including the Official Tournament logo and court design.
