NO. 16 TENNIS VOLS DOWN MEMPHIS, 4-2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee men's tennis team extended its winning streak to three after defeating Memphis, 4-2, Friday night at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center.
"It was good to get a win tonight against a very tough Memphis team who came in here and played hard against us," head coach Chris Mahony said. "It was a good team effort and we got contributions from a lot of players."
The Vols captured the doubles point when Bobby Cameron and Johnny Thornton defeated Michael Jetter and Garrison Pilant, 8-6, at No. 3. David Baxendine and Kaden Hensel defeated Bryan Bankester and Matt Brewer, 8-4, at No. 2 for UT's other victory.
Cameron got things started for Tennessee in singles winning at the No. 1 position for the fourth consecutive match. The Lenoir City native defeated Brewer, 7-5, 7-5, to stake the Vols to a 2-0 lead.
Baxendine extended Tennessee's lead to 3-0 with his come-from-behind victory over James Spence, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Sam Withell struck for the Tigers to cut Tennessee's lead to 3-1. Withell defeated Kiril Tcherveniachki, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 4. Jetter continued the Tigers comeback when he outlasted Hensel at No. 2, 6-4, 6-7, 7-5.
Moments later though, Adam Hubble clinched the match for UT defeating Pilant, 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the UT victory.
Tennessee returns to action Feb. 25, when it hosts Furman at 1 p.m. at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center.
