KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The newly released Soccer Buzz All-Central Region teams had three Tennessee players among their members, the Internet publication announced today. Senior midfielder Ali Christoph earned her fourth consecutive regional honor with her second straight first-team selection. Sophomore forward Kylee Rossi received second-team accolades, while freshman forward Mick Imgram garnered all-freshman recognition.
Christoph closed her four-year career as the leader in both games played and started with 93 of each. The Columbus, Ohio, native ranks second in the program record books with 10 career game-winning goals and 27 assists, tied for fourth with 67 points and knotted in eighth with 20 goals. The 2006 co-captain tied for the team lead with six helpers while finishing third in points (18) and fourth in goals (six). She has already been named a second-team NSCAA/adidas All-American.
The Pennington, N.J., product Rossi earned her second regional honor from the outlet, after receiving third-team honors a year ago. The sophomore led Tennessee in scoring for the second consecutive year, this time finishing with 10 goals and 25 points. The Southeastern Conference's Offensive Player of the Year, Rossi already stands 11th in UT's record books with 18 career goals.
Imgram picked up the initial postseason award of her career, landing on the All-Freshman Team. The Clifton, Va., native rebounded after missing 2005 while recovering from a knee injury with seven goals and six assists, ranking second on the team with her 20 points. The redshirt freshman extends the Big Orange's streak to four straight years with a member on the publication's regional freshman squad.
Oklahoma State nearly swept the individual awards, as junior midfielder Yolanda Odenyo took home the Player of the Year plaque and co-head coaches Colin Carmichael and Karen Hancock garnered Coach of the Year accolades. Colorado forward Nikki Marshall was named the region's Freshman of the Year. Among the three regional teams, Texas A&M led all squads with six honorees, while Texas ranked second with five, with both programs having three player each on the first team. Colorado, Oklahoma State and Denver all had three on the squads, while seven other squads had a pair chosen.
The Big 12 Conference took home nearly half of the All-Central Region slots, landing 20 players among the 43 selected, while the SEC, with only six of its members in the region, had eight, tying with Conference USA for second. Five different teams can boast two all-freshman honorees.
Tennessee finished with a 12-7-4 record overall in 2006, making its sixth straight NCAA Tournament. The Lady Vols advanced to the program's fourth regional semifinal in five years before losing to eventual national champion North Carolina.
