Tennessee's Turk McBride spearheaded the Vols. defensive effort against Kentucky and was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week.
McBride had eight tackles in UT.s 17-12 victory and made a key fourth-down stop behind the line of scrimmage. The Vols denied all three of UK's fourth-down conversion attempts, including McBride's tackle for loss on fourth-and-2 early in the fourth quarter.
McBride, who played the season's first three games at end before moving to tackle because of a teammate's injury, leads all conference defensive tackles with 64 total stops.
McCOY THIS WEEK'S CAREacter STAR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Tennessee redshirt freshman linebacker Rico McCoy was named this week's CAREacter Star Athlete of the Week for his on-field performance and commitment to off-field success.
McCoy made nine tackles, forced a fumble and deflected a key pass in the closing minutes to help Tennessee to a 17-12 win over Kentucky. Saturday's effort came in the freshman's first career start and marked the second time in as many games McCoy has led the Vols in tackles.
But it was his pass deflection in the end zone on Kentucky's third-and-goal try from the 6-yard line that proved decisive, as the Wildcats failed again on fourth down and Tennessee ran out the clock for its 22nd straight win in the border rivalry.
McCoy has made a great start off the field as well, building relationships with young student-athletes in the community on a regular basis. The Washington, D.C., native has a unique perspective on the role athletics can play in improving the lives of young adults.
