VOLS MAYO NAMED SEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tennessee linebacker Jerod Mayo is among this week's honorees for SEC Player of the Week. The sophomore linebacker captured the league.s defensive player honors after making a game-high 12 tackles in Tennessee's 16-13 win over Alabama.
Mayo's tackle total matched a career high and two of his stops were for lost yardage, including a sack on the game's final play as the Vols defense held Alabama to 211 total offensive yards. The Crimson Tide gained just 53 on the ground on 30 rushes.
A Hampton, Va., native, Mayo stands sixth in the SEC in tackles per game (7.6), fifth in sacks per game (0.71) and fourth in tackles for loss per game (1.29). He leads the Vols in both sacks and tackles for loss.
To begin the season, Mayo, who has reached double digits in tackles four times this year, was named Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against California.
BRISCOE SELECTED VOLScholar OF THE WEEK
Tennessee wide receiver Josh Briscoe is this week's VolScholar of the Week.
A Lawndale, N.C., product, Briscoe is a member of the Thornton Center 40+ Club, which means he has earned 40 or more credit hours in one year's time. He also is the football representative on the UT Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The sport management major is coming off his most productive game this season in the Vols receiving corps. He hauled in three catches for 22 yards in Tennessee's 16-13 win over Alabama and already has equaled his total of four catches from all of last season.
"BIG ORANGE TAILGATE TOUR" ROLLS INTO COLUMBIA; 800 ALUMNI, FANS SCHEDULED TO ATTEND
The 2006 "Big Orange Tailgate Tour" continues this weekend in Columbia, S.C., and all Vol fans, friends and alumni of the University of Tennessee are invited.
The Tennessee National Alumni Association hosts its third stop of the season prior to Saturday's UT-South Carolina matchup, and the two-hour pregame event begins at 4:45 p.m. The location is Seawell's Catering, across the street from the fairgrounds and Williams-Brice Stadium.
There will be a tailgate-style buffet, along with a big screen television with Vol highlights and other football games being shown.
In addition to food, fun and "Rocky Top," participants can look forward to listening to the UT Pride of the Southland Band, cheerleaders and a special appearance by Smokey. There will be game-specific spirit buttons and beads available, too. Door prizes will be awarded every 15 minutes.
All participants who pre-register for a tailgate tour stop will be automatically entered into a drawing for an autographed football. The drawing will occur at the end of the event.
Cost to eat is just $15 for adults and $8 for children (3-12).

FORMER VOLS QB MARTIN GUEST SPEAKER FRIDAY
Former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin is the featured speaker at the Carolina Touchdown Club's luncheon meeting at Seawell's on Friday.
Social and buffet luncheon begins at 11:45 a.m., followed by the program at 12:30 p.m. All Tennessee alumni and fans are invited to attend. Reservations are requested by calling (803) 771-7385 prior to Friday. Tickets are $20 each.
