Tennessee placekicker James Wilhoit and tailback LaMarcus Coker were among this week's honorees for SEC Players of the Week. Wilhoit was the special teams selection, while Coker earned the league's freshman nod.
Wilhoit contributed 11 points to Saturday's win at Memphis, kicking two field goals and five extra points. The Hendersonville product also had five touchbacks on seven kickoffs, improving his season mark to 58.1 percent (18-of-31). Wilhoit has made 6-of-7 field goal attempts this season and 17-of-19 dating to last year. He also is 3-of-4 on field goals from 45 yards and longer, including a 49-yarder Saturday. Wilhoit is the SEC's active scoring leader with 267 points.
Coker made his first collegiate start a successful one, rushing 26 times for 125 yards in Tennessee's 41-7 win at Memphis. The Antioch native set a personal game high for rushing attempts and now owns back-to-back 100-yard games. Coker leads the Vols and ranks sixth in the SEC with 324 rushing yards and a 64.8-yard per game average. He also is averaging 7.2 yards per rushing attempt.
INTERVIEW OF COACH FULMER BEFORE SATURDAY'S GAME AT GEORGIA
1. Comment on the overall play of the Vols in last Saturday's victory over Memphis on the road.
A - "The trip went off very well as far as execution of our plans leading up to the game was concerned. On the field, the offense played extremely well, and on defense, I can't recall much better play as far as shutting down an opponent in the past. We played like a disciplined team should do."
2. How will the Memphis game and road atmosphere help the Vols prepare for a key SEC game with the Georgia Bulldogs?
A - "It was on the road, but it wasn't a road atmosphere. Half the crowd must have been for Tennessee. We'll be badly outnumbered this week at Athens."
3. Trace the development of quarterback Erik Ainge through the first five games.
A - "Erik is doing a tremendous job of managing our offense. He is obviously a work in progress, but he is making strides with every game, and we are very excited about the way he's handling the quarterback duties."
4. Defensively, how will Georgia compare with other SEC rivals facing the Vols?
A - "Georgia is an especially talented team when it comes to playing defense. They certainly rank among the best defensive units we will be facing this season."
5. How will Georgia's unsettled quarterback situation likely be resolved by Coach Mark Richt before the Vols invade Athens?
A - "Coach Richt would probably like to play his veteran, but the young quarterbacks are very talented. So, no matter who plays quarterback, they will be running basically the same type offense."
