VOLS THIRD AFTER TWO ROUNDS AT BANK OF TENNESSEE INTERCOLLEGIATE

The 10th-ranked Tennessee men's golf team concluded the first day at the ninth annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges in third place. Playing Saturday in Johnson City, the Vols fired a team scorecard of 294-290--584. Play was suspended due to darkness with three teams still on the course.
Murfreesboro native Philip Pettitt paced the Vols. Pettitt posted the best round of the day for the Big Orange, a 3-under-par 69, in the second round, his lowest score of the year. He went 1-over-par 73 in his first round and is tied for third.
Junior Charlie Ford fired a 73-71--144 to finish the day at even par and tied for fifth.
Senior Tino Weiss finished 4-over-par and in a tie for 17th. Weiss followed his first round 1-over-par 73 with a second round 3-over-par 75.
Clarksville native John Brannen, in his first competition of the year, shot 6-over-par 150 to place 28th after two rounds.
Sophomore Chris Paisley rounded out the lineup for the Volunteers. Paisley fired a scorecard of 76-75--151 to stand 7-over-par and tied for 33rd.
Competing as an individual, redshirt freshman James Brannen fired a 74-84--158 to finish the day tied for 68th.
ETSU fired a team score of 291-291--582 and has a one-stroke lead after two rounds. North Carolina (583) sits in second, with Tennessee two strokes back in third. South Carolina and TCU are tied for fourth with total scores of 592.
South Carolina's George Bryan and ETSU's Rhys Davies fired total scores of 140 and finished the day 4 under par to tie for the lead in the individual standings. UT's Philip Pettitt and TCU's Jon McClean are tied for third two strokes back.
The third and final round begins Sunday morning.
