FOUR LADY VOLS HONORED BY CRCA

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Four members of the Lady Vol rowing team were chosen as All-South Region selections by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association on Friday. Seniors Andrea Bagwell, Kaitlin Bargreen and Chelsea Pemberton were named to the All-South Region First Team, while Dana Forbes was tabbed to the second team.
With their selections, Bargreen and Pemberton, who were chosen as All-Americans the previous two seasons, have now each garnered first-team All-South Region status every year of their collegiate careers. Bagwell, however, is making her first appearance on the All-South Region First Team, after garnering second team status last season, while Forbes is making her first appearance on the second team. The Lady Vol quartet is part of Tennessee's varsity eight squad, which ranks a program-best sixth in the USRowing/CRCA Poll, and will compete at the 2004 NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif., on May 27-29.
The All-Region awards are designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. The nomination criteria include meeting eligibility rules as defined by her institution, participating in at least 75 percent of the season's races in the varsity boat and the student-athlete's head coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA. A maximum of four athletes plus one coxswain per institution may be nominated.
The All-Region teams were selected as follows: Teams with varsity eight boats that were ranked in the top six regionally as of the final NCAA Regional Ranking had athletes automatically distributed to the All-Region teams. At-large selections (for rowers from teams that have varsity eight boats which finished outside the top six regionally) were chosen by the Division I Awards committee based on boat performance, 2K erg score and coaches comments. Coxswains were also selected by the Division I awards committee based on boat performance and coaches comments.
