After a strong weekend during which Tennessee baseball team won two of three games against then No. 10 Arkansas, the Volunteers climbed the charts to No. 16 in the latest Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball national polls, which were released by the publications Monday.
The Vols were previously ranked No. 23 in last week's Baseball America poll and No. 24 in last week's Collegiate Baseball listings.
Tennessee junior Chase Headley hit home runs in each game of last weekend's series with the Razorbacks -- who arrived on Rocky Top riding an eight-game winning streak. Headley is one four Vols hitting above .350 this season, and he leads the Big Orange with 11 home runs.
As a team, Tennessee leads the SEC with a .328 batting average and a .512 slugging percentage. The Vols' staff ERA of 3.26 ranks fourth in the conference.
The Vols took the afternoon off Monday to visit families at East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
Tennessee hosts Tennessee Temple Tuesday at 7 p.m., before traveling to Cookeville, Tenn., to face Tennessee Tech Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET. The Vols then head west to take on SEC Eastern Division rival Vanderbilt for a three-game series this weekend.
