The No. 23-ranked Tennessee baseball team travels to Asheville, N.C., Wednesday to face UNC Asheville at 7 p.m. ET. The Volunteers dropped a high-scoring, mid-week contest to the Bulldogs 13-10 earlier this season and will be looking to exact some revenge at McCormick Field, home the Single-A Asheville Tourists.
Tennessee enters Wednesday's game with a record of 23-9 (7-4 SEC). The Vols aim to stay sharp heading into this weekend's home series against No. 10-ranked Arkansas. Senior first baseman Alex Suarez, who made a game-saving unassisted double play in the ninth inning of Sunday's win at Kentucky, had a solid outing against UNCA March 30. Suarez went 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored in the loss.
UNC Asheville sports a record of 9-23 (1-11 Big South) and is led by first-year head coach Willie Stewart. Senior infielder Josh Coyle paces the Bulldogs with 45 hits, 25 RBIs and four home runs. UNCA is hitting .259 as a team and has fashioned a staff ERA of 5.99.
Starting pitchers for the game have not yet been announced. A radio broadcast of the contest can be heard locally on WNOX 990 AM, with veteran play-by-play man John Wilkerson calling the action.
