The Tennessee baseball team takes a brief detour from its Southeastern Conference schedule Wednesday when it hosts UNC Asheville for a 7 p.m., contest at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Volunteers' record stands at 18-7 (3-3 SEC) this season, and UT looks to return to its winning ways after a pair of setbacks to Ole Miss last weekend.
UNC Asheville is off to a 7-16 (1-5 Big South) start this season under first-year head coach Willie Stewart. The Bulldogs are hitting .264 as a team and sport a 6.17 staff ERA. Senior infielder Josh Coyle paces the club with four home runs and 19 RBIs.
Tennessee's hottest bat of late has been that of junior third baseman Chase Headley, who is hitting .448 with 13 hits and two home runs the past two weeks. Junior catcher Kelly Edmundson has pitched in with two homers and 14 RBIs during that span.
Wednesday's starting pitchers will be right-handers Rob Fitzgerald (0-0, 5.62 ERA) for Tennessee and Ben Buchanan (2-1, 4.88 ERA) for the Bulldogs.
