After hitting four home runs in four games last week, Tennessee baseball player Eli Iorg was named one of Louisville Slugger's National Players of the Week. The junior from Knoxville went 13-for-19 at the plate, drove in 13 runs and became the first Vol to hit a home run in three straight games since current Houston Astros second baseman Chris Burke did it in 2001.
Iorg becomes the first Vol to be tabbed as a national player of the week since the 2002 season, when Jeffery Terrell was recognized for throwing a nine-inning no-hitter against Bowling Green.
The Southeastern Conference also recognized Iorg's dominance by naming him SEC Baseball Player of the Week. Iorg is the first Tennessee position player to garner the SEC's weekly award since fellow junior Michael Rivera was tabbed for the honor last March. Vols ace Luke Hochevar earned SEC Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors last month.
Iorg is tied for the Tennessee team lead with six home runs, and his 22 RBIs and 54 total bases rank first on the squad.
