Tonight's Tennessee victory marks the second consecutive season the Lady Vols have emerged victorious from an NCAA Tournament contest. This is UT's eighth overall NCAA Tournament visit in the program's history.
The Orange & White evened their NCAA Tournament record at 7-7 (.500) and are now 3-1 over the last two seasons with the lone loss in Sweet 16 action at Ohio State in 2004.
UT improved its home mark to a perfect 12-0 at the Stokely Athletics Center in 2005 and currently carries a streak of 18 consecutive home victories. The Lady Vols have lost just two of 38 total home games played this season with those two game losses coming in UT's 3-2 victory over highly-ranked Florida.
The Big Orange have taken both meetings against Jacksonville State all-time and moves on to face Minnesota for the fourth time ever. The Golden Gophers have picked up wins in all three contests against UT with the last occurrence coming an three straight games in the 2000 campaign.
Lady Vols setter Julie Knytych continues to close the gap to third all-time on the Southeastern Conference's career assist chart. With 5,643 assists, the UT senior rates fourth and trails Georgia's Jenny McDowell (5,667 helpers from 1984-87) by 24 for third.
This was Jacksonville State's first NCAA appearance in program history. A victory in the Ohio Valley Conference Tourney secured the initial bid.
The loss to Tennessee ended JSU's 10-match winning skein, the second-longest in school history (11 matches)
JSU's Emily Withers passed Jenni Williamson and Meredith Duke for fourth on Jacksonville State's career assist chart in tonight's match. She now has 2,982 career helpers.
