UT-OREGON SERIES EXTENDS VOLS' STRING OF TOP-FLIGHT SCHEDULING

Continuing a trend that has made Tennessee the Southeastern Conference standard-bearer in football scheduling, UT Athletics Director Mike Hamilton announced Monday that Oregon is the latest addition to the Vols. home and away fixtures over the next decade.
Oregon visits Neyland Stadium Sept. 11, 2010, to begin the series, with the Vols making their return in a Sept. 14, 2013, trip to Eugene, Ore.
"This is another major BCS opponent for us and will be the first time we've ever played in the Pacific Northwest," Hamilton said. "I think this continues our pattern of intersectional competition against premier opponents."
The agreement also maintains Tennessee visibility against west-coast opponents, with upcoming series against California (2006-07) and UCLA (2008-09) preceding the Oregon contests. Earlier this year, Hamilton announced future football dates with North Carolina (2011-12) and Oklahoma (2014-15).
"We've always played the top teams," head coach Phillip Fulmer said. "We are a national program and recruit on a national basis. These games keep us in the national spotlight for years to come."
Tennessee has played Notre Dame, Miami and Fresno State during the last three seasons, with Syracuse, Texas Tech and UCLA dotting the non-conference slate over the past decade.
Oregon made a run at the Pacific-10 Conference title this year, finishing 10-1 with its only loss coming to top-ranked Southern California.
