Tennessee tailback Arian Foster is making a mid-season name for himself after posting a pair of 100-yard outings in each of his first two collegiate starts.
The San Diego, Calif., native took over for senior Gerald Riggs Jr., who was lost for the season with ankle and leg injuries suffered against Alabama. Since then, Foster has compiled 273 yards and two touchdowns in two games to place himself squarely on UT's all-time freshman rushing chart.
"Arian has done a heck of a job for us," head coach Phillip Fulmer said. "He's got toughness and the ability to make the first guy miss. He's also becoming a better blocker -- all indications that he will become a very good back for us."
Foster has rushed 89 times this season for 410 yards, placing him eighth on UT's season rushing chart for freshmen. And only Jamal Lewis' 1997 tally of 1,364 yards, which stands as the Vols' freshmen record, was a better effort since Fulmer became head coach during the 1992 season.
Foster also is proving durable. His 28 carries Saturday at Notre Dame were the most by a Tennessee back since Cedric Houston carried 32 times for 149 yards in 2002 at Mississippi State.
