LADY VOL ROWERS CONLUDE FALL SEASON IN RIVANNA ROMP

To conclude its already successful fall season, the Lady Vol rowing team will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to compete in the Rivanna Romp Regatta on Sunday. Head coach Lisa Glenn will send six boats, the most this season so far, to compete in two events. Tennessee will field three shells in both the Championship 8+ and Championship 4+ races. The regatta will begin at 10 a.m. with the Championship 8+ event.
Junior coxswain Molly Oellerich will now captain the shell of Lauren Wells, Mary Jones, Lindsay Ehrlich, Rachel Mayberry, Kristen Galloway, Krista Gearing, Beth Schwartz and Nina Dobratz, which claimed the gold medal at the Head of the Hooch Regatta on Nov. 5. Last year, Oellerich's boat (Kaitlin Bargreen, McKenzie Craig, Andrea Bagwell, Chelsea Pemberton, Dana Forbes, Beth Schwartz, Rachel Mayberry, and Lauren Wells) topped the other Tennessee entrants in the Rivanna Romp with a third-place finish.
This will be the third time the Lady Vols have competed in the Rivanna Romp. The squad climbed to third place in the Championship 8+ in 2004 and 2003 and second in the Championship 4+ event in 2003.
The Rivanna Romp Regatta, hosted by the University of Virginia, will field elite teams from eight other universities: Cincinnati, Clemson, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin. In 2004, Virginia and Ohio State occupied the top two spots in both the Championship 8+ and Championship 4+ events, while Tennessee notched a third-place finish in both.
The Rivanna Romp will be the Lady Vols' final race of 2005. The squad will resume competition in March.
