KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee head baseball coach Rod Delmonico has named juniors Luke Hochevar and Eli Iorg team co-captains for the 2005 season. Hochevar, who also served as a 2004 co-captain, enters this season as the ace of the Volunteers pitching staff. Iorg is an outfielder from Knoxville who looks to lead UT's offensive attack this year.
The Vols begin preparations for their Feb. 11 opener vs. Texas A&M Monday, with a pair of practices scheduled at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. In his 16th year at the helm of Big Orange program, Delmonico fields a 27-man roster that features 16 returning lettermen from a team that reached the NCAA tournament a season ago.
Texas A&M marks the first of three Big 12 opponents the Vols will face at the 2005 Minute Maid College Classic. The tournament is held at Minute Maid Park, which serves as home to the Houston Astros. Tennessee also squares off against Baylor and Oklahoma State in the three-day event.
