KNOXVILLE, TENN.
Jenny Moshak, University of Tennessee Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine, announced today that Lady Vol rookie basketball center Alexandria "Alex" Fuller had undergone surgery.
"Alex was experiencing some instability in her left knee and, upon further testing, it was determined that she needed to undergo arthroscopic surgery to assess the source of the instability," indicated Moshak. "The scope was performed today by UT Team Orthopedist, Dr. William T. Youmans at the UT Medical Center.
"Alex will begin rehabilitation immediately. However, further surgery will be required to repair her knee completely," said Moshak.
Fuller, a 6'3" freshman center from Shelbyville, Tenn., had previously suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee earlier in her career as a standout All-American prepster at Shelbyville Central H.S. Last season, the multi-decorated All-American was named Miss Basketball from the State of Tennessee. Additionally, she averaged 19.1 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
"As I have said recently, I have complete faith in our medical staff, as they are one of the best in the country. I know Alex will return to the court when her knee is ready and she is able to perform," said Lady Vol head coach Pat Summitt.
Fuller joins fellow Lady Vol rookie All-American Candace Parker on "Moshak's All-Rehab Team" in the UT training room. Parker had surgery a week ago to repair both the lateral meniscus and the lateral articular cartilage in her left knee.
