Tennessee men's tennis program bolstered its prospects recently when Australian standout Morgan Wilson signed scholarship papers to become a Volunteer next spring. Vols coaches Michael Fancutt and Chris Mahony reached into the rich talent pool in their hometown of Brisbane, Australia, to find UT's latest signee.
Wilson is scheduled to enroll at Tennessee in January.
"Signing Morgan Wilson is huge for our tennis program," Mahony said. "Not only is Morgan a great player, but he's also a good student and an outstanding young man. His tennis credentials speak for themselves, however more importantly he is the type of individual that we want associated with our university."
Prior to signing with UT, Wilson competed in several professional tournaments as an amateur, attaining a year-end ATP entry ranking of No. 668 in the world in 2002. He has notched singles wins over numerous former collegiate All-America performers, including Bobby Reynolds of Vanderbilt, David McNamara of MTSU and Nick Monroe of North Carolina.
As a junior player, Wilson rose as high as No. 3 in the Australian Boys' 18s singles rankings.
