Always on the lookout for big-play men, the Vols have uncovered a jewel in Parys Haralson, a give-no-quarter warrior with a yen for mayhem.
Haralson, a 255-pound junior, moved into the starting lineup four games into the season and rewarded his coaches by racking up 14.5 tackles for loss and five sacks.
"Parys is a dynamic player," defensive ends coach Steve Caldwell said."He is by far the quickest guy we have on the edge and we're expecting great things out of him."
If he turns it up still another notch, Haralson could become one of Tennessee's big-play giants, destined for a niche in school history his last two seasons. He finished spring practice well ahead of sophomore Turk McBride and freshman Jared Hostetter at left defensive end.
"Turk has the strength and size to be special," Caldwell said. "He's working hard on his speed and is very close to being considered a starter."
Over on the other side, Karlton Neal shapes up as the starter, moving up to the first team for the first time since Haralson displaced him before last year's South Carolina game.
"Karlton really had a great spring and you can tell he's looking forward to his senior season," Caldwell said. "I believe his leadership will have an impact on this football team."
Junior Jason Hall and freshman Antonio Reynolds look to challenge Neal for playing time at right end this season.
