Knoxville, Tenn. - Chris Kemp went 2-for-2 with two RBI as the twelfth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers rallied to post a 6-3 victory over the East Tennessee State Buccaneers at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
ETSU (14-19) built a 2-0 lead on a home run by Steven Douglas and a sacrifice fly before Tennessee (26-5) took a 3-2 lead in the third on a ground out, a double by Kemp and a single by Eli Iorg. The Bucs then tied it in the fourth on Steven Calicutt's base hit.
The Vols took the lead for good in the fifth as Josh Alley led off with a triple and scored on a double by Eric King who plated on Kemp's sacrifice fly for a 5-3 Volunteer lead. They added an insurance run in the sixth on a single by Michael Rivera.
Kemp, Alley, King and Rivera led the Vols with two hits apiece, while Douglas went 2-for-3 for the Bucs.
Relievers Chris Howell (1-0) earned the win and Steven Calicutt (3-5) took the loss. Dusty Johnson worked a scoreless ninth for his first career save.
Tennessee opens and eight-game road trip with an SEC series at Georgia, April 9-11.
