Tennessee cornerback Antwan Stewart has begun rehabilitation on his left knee after undergoing successful surgery to repair a torn ligament, head athletic trainer Keith Clements reported Tuesday. Stewart underwent the procedure Thursday at UT Medical Center.
The sophomore from Dumfries, Va., suffered his injury during an April 3 scrimmage that closed out the third week of Tennessee's spring practice schedule. Stewart topped the depth chart at right cornerback when the mishap occurred after earning Freshman All-SEC honors last season.
"Everything went smoothly and we're hopeful for a late season return," Clements said. Drs. Bill Youmans and Greg Mathien preformed the surgery.
Stewart closed out 2003 with 25 tackles, including a season high of eight against Marshall. He added goal line interceptions in each of the last two regular season games, picking off passes against Vanderbilt and Kentucky
