BASEBALL VOLS HOST CARSON-NEWMAN IN MAKE UP GAME WEDNESDAY
The Tennessee Volunteers will play host to the Carson-Newman Eagles Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET at Lindsey Nelson Stadium to make up for the game at Wofford which was rained out Tuesday. Admission is free.
The Volunteers (29-5), who vaulted to No. 6 in the national rankings following a three-sweep at Georgia last weekend, look to extend their winning streak to nine games. Carson-Newman (27-20-1) is on a five-game winning streak and has won 14 of its last 18.
The teams have not played since 1999 when the Eagles handed the Vols a 10-5 loss in Jefferson City. The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak by Tennessee in the series.
Sophomore right-hander Luke Hochevar (1-0, 0.00 ERA) is slated to make his first start since suffering a head injury during pregame batting practice March 13. He pitched seven no-hit innings in his only start against Morehead State Feb. 13 and missed three weeks after getting hit in the lower leg by a line drive in that appearance.
Junior left-hander Charlie Munroe (3-1, 5.62) will start for the Eagles.
Tennessee boasts a couple of hot bats as center fielder Josh Alley is on a career-high nine-game hitting streak, raising his average to .312.
Designated hitter Alex Suarez is also off to a hot start in April, batting .600 (12-for-20) with two doubles and six RBI. He hit .545 (6-for-11) in the Georgia series and has hit safely in the last six games, raising his batting average to a team-best .405.
