Tennessee defensive back Roshaun Fellows added another first-team Freshman All-America post to his impressive debut resume Tuesday with release of The Sporting News (TSN) team for 2004. Rivals.com recognized Fellows as a first-teamer last week.
The Warren, Ark., native ended the regular season with three interceptions. His 13 passes defensed were good enough for third in the conference. Fellows had at least one pass defensed in eight games and certainly would have made more than seven starts in his 11 overall games played if not for a foot injury suffered prior to the Notre Dame game.
In addition to Fellows, Erik Ainge made TSN's second team All-America squad and was named SEC Offensive Freshman of the Year from the quarterback position. Ainge completed 109-of-198 passes for 1,452 yards and a school freshman-record 17 touchdowns. He threw a TD pass in all nine games he played before missing Tennessee's last three games because of a shoulder injury.
Defensive back Jonathan Hefney rounded out the Vols' contingent, making both All-America second team and All-SEC freshman. Hefney started all but one game this year and is fourth on the team with 61 tackles, including tying a season high with eight in the SEC Championship Game. He topped his season best with three passes defensed at Georgia and has 11 for the season.
