BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Linebacker Kevin Burnett and defensive back Jason Allen were the only Vols honored on the SEC coaches' first-team All-SEC squad. Second team members included OT Michael Munoz, TB Cedric Houston, DT Jessee Mahelona, LB Omar Gaither and P Dustin Colquitt.
SEC Champion Auburn has a league-high eight representatives on the 2004 First-Team All-Southeastern Conference Coaches' Football Team, the league announced on Monday.
Nine of the 12 SEC schools had a member of the first-team All-SEC squad. Following Auburn, Georgia had seven players on the first-team with LSU four, Alabama three, Florida and Tennessee two and Arkansas, LSU, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt with one each. Kentucky, Ole Miss and South Carolina were not represented on the first team.
Auburn had the most players on both the first and second units with 10.
Tennessee and Alabama had a league-high four players on the second unit followed by LSU with four, Ole Miss three, South Carolina and Auburn with two and Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt each with one.
There were no unanimous selections to this year's All-SEC squad. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players, thus a unanimous selection earns 11 of 12 first-team votes.
Alabama senior offensive lineman Wesley Britt, Auburn running back Carnell Williams and Georgia defensive lineman David Pollack were repeat first-team selections from last season.
The All-SEC squad had 18 first-team seniors, 10 were underclassmen, including eight juniors and two sophomores. Georgia tight end Leonard Pope and Florida linebacker Channing Crowder were the only sophomores on the first unit. On the second-team, 12 seniors were selected, 13 juniors and three sophomores and two freshmen. South Carolina defensive back Ko Simpson and Auburn defensive lineman Stanley McClover were the only freshmen on the second-team.
The SEC individual award winners will be released on Wednesday and the SEC All-Freshman Team will be announced on Thursday.
