KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- University of Tennessee volleyball player Amy Morris (Michigan City, Ind. / Penn State) earned edamerica Lady Vol Athlete of the Month accolades for November as she tied for the team high in kills (107 for an average of 3.06/game) and led the squad in digs (143 for an average of 4.09/game).
The junior outside hitter helped lead Tennessee to a 9-0 mark in November, its second undefeated month in school history (with at least four matches played). Previously, UT went 6-0 in September 1979 along with compiling four undefeated months with fewer than four matches: August 2002 (3-0), August 1996 (2-0), August 1990 (1-0) and September 1981 (1-0).
The highlights for the Lady Vols in the 11th month of this year included a clinching of their first regular-season title in school history, a co-championship with Florida, and an SEC Tournament championship for the first time in 20 years. The junior earned SEC Tournament MVP accolades with a team-leading 4.31 digs/game (56 total) and 2.69 kills/game (35 total), tied for the second-highest average and total on the squad.
Morris became the second volleyball player to earn the award this season after teammate Kristen Andre attained honors in September. The two are the first volleyball players chosen for the honor since Janelle Hester was named in September 2000.
