Tennessee offensive tackle Michael Munoz earned another first-team All-America selection, this time from Associated Press in a release Monday. Linebacker Kevin Burnett was a second-team choice, with safety Jason Allen earning third-team honors.
Munoz was selected first-team All-America earlier this postseason by the American Football Coaches Association, and earned a second-team nod from the Walter Camp Football Foundation. The Mason, Ohio, native also picked up top academic achievement honors from the National Football Foundation last week when he won the Draddy Trophy.
He joined Georgia's David Pollack, LSU's Marcus Spears and Auburn's Carlos Rogers as first-team AP selections from the Southeastern Conference.
Burnett, a senior linebacker from Carson, Calif., adds the AP list to his first-team selection by the AFCA. Allen's selection is the first for the Muscle Shoals, Ala., junior. Junior defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona earlier picked up first-team honors from The Sporting News.
VOLS GETTING EXTRA PRACTICE WORK
Tennessee resumed its pre-holiday practice schedule Monday with a 90-minute workout inside the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center. Head coach Phillip Fulmer hopes the extra workouts leading up to the Jan. 1 SBC Cotton Bowl can benefit a number of prospects.
"All those guys working extra after practice that makes a difference," Fulmer said. "A lot of our young guys play, but we've got some young offensive linemen who could certainly benefit from this time.
"The secondary and offensive line would be the two main areas (where that would help)."
The Vols began an eight-day stretch of practices leading into the holiday break. Fulmer says his squad is off to a good start preparing for Texas A&M, the Vols' opponent in Dallas.
"This was our first day getting back into working," Fulmer said. "Our tempo was good, our assignments were good. Obviously, going against each other, you're always pleased with one thing and then not so pleased with the other."
