Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer offered his condolences Monday to the family of Gary Lundy, a sports columnist for the Knoxville News Sentinel who died earlier in the day of a heart attack. Lundy was 49.
"Gary was always tremendously fair," Fulmer said prior to UT's practice at Haslam Field. "If you had an issue with him, you could sit down and talk to him about it. From a professional standpoint, I respected that.
"It's just a tremendous tragedy. He was a good family man, he had a young son. He was a part of what we've done here for a long time. He was very important in our community and we will miss that."
Lundy covered sports, mostly UT athletics, for 27 years and had been with the News Sentinel since 1992. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, and a son, Christian.
