VOLS MAKE FOURTH CHAMPIONSHIP GAME APPEARANCE
- The Tennessee Volunteers are making their fourth Southeastern Conference Championship game appearance and first since 2001. The Vols won back-to-back league titles in 1997 and 1998 with fourth-quarter comebacks over Auburn and Mississippi State. They dropped the 2001 title game to LSU.
- Over the last eight years, the Vols have appeared in the SEC title game four times, the most of any conference team. The four appearances is third in the SEC, ranking behind Florida's seven and Alabama's five.
- Under the division format which began in 1992, the Vols are tied with Alabama for second with two SEC titles apiece.
- Tennessee, Florida and Georgia are the only schools to represent the Eastern Division, while every school, with the exception of Ole Miss, has represented the West in the title game.
- Tennessee has scored as many points as it has allowed in three championship games, 74-74.
- UT has led at the half of two of three games (1998, 2001).
- The Vols have eight passing touchdowns and one rushing score in three games.
- Peyton Manning and Peerless Price were named game MVPs following the 1997 and 1998 contests, respectively.
