Benton, Taylor Leaving Football Team

Sophomore defensive back Shannon Benton and junior defensive tackle Andre Taylor have informed head coach Phillip Fulmer of their intentions to transfer to another school this summer and leave the Tennessee football program. Benton plans to attend the University of South Florida, while Taylor is considering a number of options.
Both players depart in good academic standing with hopes of pursuing better playing opportunities.
Benton, from Babson Park, Fla., redshirted the 2001 season before appearing in three games last year, including the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl against Maryland. Taylor came to the Vols from Scarbrough, Ontario, and redshirted the 2000 season. He appeared in one game in 2001 but did not make any playing appearances last year.
