Tennessee plays host to Tusculum tonight in the Vols' final home baseball game of the season. First pitch from Lindsey Nelson Stadium is set for 7 p.m. (EDT).
Tennessee enters this weekend's three-game series at Vanderbilt in second place in the SEC Eastern Division, 1 1/2 games ahead of Florida and two games in front of Vanderbilt. Tennessee's "magic number" is two. Any combination of a Tennessee win and Florida loss would put the Volunteers in the SEC Tournament for the first time since 2001. Tennessee owns tiebreakers over South Carolina, Arkansas and Alabama.
The 2003 Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament will be held May 21-25 at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. The league's top eight teams earn the right to play for the SEC Tournament title.
After being 8-14 at one point in league play and in fourth place in the division, the Vols have reeled off five straight conference wins to move into second place.
If the tournament started today, Tennessee would be the No. 6 seed, playing the No. 3 seed Auburn Tigers. Georgia and Kentucky are the only two schools elminated from a possible SEC Tournament bid heading into the final weekend of the season.
