KNOXVILLE - Hotshooting LSU hit a Thompson-Boling Arena record 17 three-pointers as the Tigers handed Tennessee an 88-67 loss Saturday.
Collis Temple III scored 23 points and Ronald Dupree added 22 to lead the Tigers (17-9, 6-8). Ron Slay paced the Vols (15-10, 7-7) with 19 points, while Jon Higgins had 18.
Tennessee got no closer than nine points in the second half. Higgins' two free throws capped UT's 7-2 run to start the second half, pulling the Vols to a 49-40 deficit with 18:01 remaining.
But the Tigers answered with three consecutive 3-pointers to run its lead to 58-40 and never looked back.
LSU took a commanding 47-33 advantage into halftime. The Tigers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the games first two minutes before Thaydeus Holden broke the Vols scoring drought with 17:22 remaining.
The Tigers led 28-8 with 10:54 remaining after hitting 11 of their first 13 shots from the field, including a perfect 5-of-5 from three-point range.
LSU finished the half shooting 62 percent from the field and was 8-of-11 from long range by halftime.
The Tigers' 88 points were the most given up by Tennessee this season. LSU's 17 three-pointers bettered the mark set by Purdue in a win over Kansas in the 1994 NCAA Regionals at Thompson-Boling Arena, and better the mark of 14 against the Vols by Kentucky in 2001.
LSU hit a then-school record 16 three-point field goals in its 94-63 win over Auburn Wednesday.
Tennessee plays host to Mississippi State Wednesday in the Vols' final home game of the season. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (EST) from Thompson-Boling Arena.
