Tennessee senior tennis player Simon Rea is listed at No. 10 in the fall ITA Southeast regional singles rankings, which were released Thursday.
Rea entered the fall season with a national singles ranking of No. 12, but was hampered by an arm injury and played in only two ITA-sanctioned events. He posted a combined singles mark of 3-3 in the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships and the ITA Southeast Regional Indoor Championships, where he reached the quarterfinals.
Mississippi State senior Romain Ambert garnered the top singles spot in the Southeast region, followed by Georgia's Bo Hodge, Tulane's Michael Kogan, Kentucky's Jesse Witten and Tulane's Dmitiry Koch in the top five, respectively. Of the region's top-30 singles players, 24 hail from the Southeastern Conference.
Rea is Tennessee's top returning player from a year ago, when he compiled an overall singles record of 26-9, was selected to compete in the NCAA Men's Singles Championships and finished the season ranked No. 22 in the nation.
In Thursday's regional doubles rankings, Rea and fellow senior Wade Orr are ranked No. 12 in the Southeast. Of the 17 doubles teams that received a regional ranking, 14 were from the SEC.
Division I regional rankings are released twice a year (fall and year-end). The top-30 singles players and top-15 doubles teams are ranked for men and women in each of the eight ITA regions.
The Vols begin the spring season at the SEC Coaches' Indoor Championships. Georgia plays host to the event Jan. 15-19 in Athens, Ga.
