Senior strong safety Gibril Wilson captured Tennessee's seventh Southeastern Conference Player of the Week nod following his sparkling performance in Saturday's 20-7 triumph at Kentucky. The San Jose, Calif., native was the league's defensive selectee after recording 11 official tackles and three pass deflections.
Wilson has led the Vols in tackles six times this year, including three of the last four games. In his last four outings, Wilson posted 42 tackles to jump into a tie for the team lead with Kevin Simon at 106. During that
span, he had five tackles for loss (two sacks) along with nine pass deflections and two interceptions.
Against Kentucky, Wilson had nine solo tackles and two assists. One of those tackles was his third sack of the year and Saturday marked his second straight game with three pass breakups (season total at 11).
His third quarter hit against wide receiver Chris Bernard was a season highlight for a Vol defense that keeps improving.

"Gibril was all over the field making plays," teammate Mark Jones said. "The big hit he made really turned the game around."
Added Jabari Greer, "Gibril has been playing like an All-American lately. Our secondary is molding into a complete unit."
Wilson joins two-time winner Dustin Colquitt, Jabari Davis, Casey Clausen, Derrick Tinsley and Mark Jones as Tennessee's honorees for the weekly award this year.
