Head Coach Rob Patrick has announced the signing of Yuliya Stoyanova to a National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Tennessee volleyball program beginning in the 2004-05 academic year.
Stoyanova, a 6-1 outside hitter who hails from Sofia, Bulgaria, has gained extensive experience competing with the country's Junior National Team for the last two years. Specifically, her junior national squad placed third at both the 2001 Balkan Championships in Turkey and at the 2002 Junior European Championships. Stoyanova has also enjoyed great success with her high school team of 81 SOU "V. Hugo", winning a national championship in 2002 and claiming national runner-up honors in 2001.
"Yuliya will bring a tremendous amount of international volleyball experience to our team," Patrick said. "She is a technically-sound volleyball player, who will become a very physical player as well."
