" Casey in the Classroom" Every Friday before a Home Game
Casey Clausen may be the starting quarterback for the University of Tennessee football team on Saturdays, but Friday is when he dedicates his time to kids at local Knoxville elementary schools.
"Casey in the Classroom" is a part of the Go V.O.L.S. (Volunteering Outstanding Leadership and Service) program where Clausen visits students every Friday of a home UT football game. Clausen has visited Hardin Valley, Foothills and Brickey Elementary throughout the 2003 football season.
During his visits, Clausen goes to the classrooms and talks to students about the importance of academics and signs autographs for the excited students.
"Casey in the Classroom" has been a big hit not only with the students but also with Clausen.
"Every time I visit one of these schools it really brightens my day. I enjoy knowing I make a difference in their lives and I want them to know they have a very big impact on me as well," Clausen said.
Clausen has participated in other events such as the Vols Annual Hospital Visits and he also speaks to little league football teams.
"This program was perfect for Casey because he has always been someone who interacts well with kids," said Gerald Harrison, director of community relations for UT football.
Clausen will be visiting Sarah Moore Greene Friday, Oct. 31, 2003 before the Duke game.
