Tennessee's baseball team made its annual visit to Knoxville area hospitals on Wednesday. The Vols visited patients at East Tennessee Children's Hospital and the UT Medical Center as part of their ongoing community relations projects bringing smiles and plenty of Big Orange spirit.
The entire UT baseball team took part in the visits, taking time to pose for pictures and sign autographs for patients. The team divided into two groups going to each hospital. Once there, they were escorted to patient's rooms, spending a few minutes signing trading cards, shakers, and schedule posters.
" We have really tried to make this a positive experience for our team each year," said assistant coach Larry Simcox who accompanied the squad. "The visits bring smiling faces to both men and women, young and old alike, as our players and coaches acquaint themselves with the patients and fans. It's just a great experience."
In addtion, the Tennessee baseball team also talks to children at local elementary schools about the importance of reading as part of the Adopt-A-School program.
