Watson Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

KNOXVILLE - Tennessee freshman guard C.J. Watson underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to repair a cartilage tear in his right knee Tuesday afternoon at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

The procedure, which was performed by team orthopedist Dr. Bill Youmans, is expected to keep the Las Vegas, Nev., native out of action for 4-6 weeks.

"We are glad that this was found before the season started," head coach Buzz Peterson said. "We are hoping he will make a full recovery in time for the start of practice."

Watson, a 6-foot-1, 165-pound guard, was a fourth team Parade All-America selection after leading Bishop Gorman High School to the 2002 state championship. Bishop Gorman's all-time leading scorer with 1,732 career points, Watson was named the Nevada Player of the Year two times.

Basketball practice begins Saturday, Oct. 12.
