| Tennessee 42, Wyoming 17 Sept. 4, 1999 at Neyland Stadium STATISTICS
Things were a bit tense at the time, but you knew it was just a matter of time. Never fear, however, because the No. 3-ranked Tennessee Volunteers, now with 14 consecutive wins in their collective pockets, relied on the running of Jamal Lewis (25 carries for 159 yards and three TDs), the receiving of Cedrick Wilson (seven catches for 183 yards and two scores), the passing accuracy of Tee Martin and a defensive effort which recorded 25 tackles behind the line and a school-record 13 sacks. The Vols ran off a 28-0 streak in the second quarter, a stanza which Wyoming coach Dana Dimel said lasted seemingly forever, "two-and-one-half hours," according to the coach. It wasn't quite that long, but it was close. Lewis scored on runs of 25, 32 and 1, while Wilson caught TD passes covering 55 and 16 yards. Eric Westmoreland was on the spot exactly when needed, finding a bobble and scooting 18 yards for a score just before halftime. Robert Loudermilk, making his Vol debut, knocked home six extra points in as many tries. The Vols scored on their first series of 1999, as Lewis caught a pass for 12, Eric Parker another for 14, and, after a penalty moved the ball to the Wyoming 25, Lewis roarded up the middle for the game's first tally. Lewis added a 32-yarder in the second period after Wyoming took the first intermission lead and Wilson added two TD catches of his own, covering 55 and 16 yards before Westmoreland scooped up a fumble and headed goalward. Lewis added a fourth quarter score to complete the evening's work. Lewis' 159 yards made him the eighth back in UT history to crack the 2000-yard barrier, now with a total of 2,020. He made it quicker than any other Vol back (17 games) and has 11 career 100-yard games. He tied a career high (Kentucky 1997) with his three rushing TDs. Wilson's pass-catching effort of 183 yards was the ninth-best mark in Vol history. Vol defenders roared in time after time on Wyoming quarterbacks Jay Stoner and Matt Swanson for the aforementioned 13 sacks, led by Darwin Walker and Shaun Ellis with three each. Will Overstreet and Mikki Allen added two. Dwayne Goodrich and Deon Grant each had interceptions.
