Tennessee's 2002 season opener Aug. 31 against Wyoming at Nashville's Adelphia Coliseum will kickoff at 5:30 p.m. (EDT). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
The game was originally scheduled to be played on Wyoming's campus in Laramie, but Cowboy officials decided to move the game to Nashville for financial reasons. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Nashville Sports Council and the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.
"We are excited about UT and Wyoming coming to town," said Scott Ramsey, executive director of the Nashville Sports Council, which lured the game to the midstate. "Bringing in unique games like this is not only a great use of our stadium facility, but also fulfills the Sports Council's mission of hosting athletic events to create economic impact for Nashville."
Tennessee defeated Wyoming 42-17 at Neyland Stadium to open the 1999 campaign in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Vols enter the game with a 12-0 mark against current members of the Mountain West Conference.
This year's season opener will be Tennessee's second game at Adelphia Coliseum. The Vols defeated Vanderbilt 28-26 to close the 2000 campaign in the NFL facility. It was announced last week that this year's Vanderbilt game Nov. 23 will also be played at Adelphia Coliseum.
