KACEY MONTGOMERY NAMED FIRST-TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
Junior rower Kacey Montgomery (Apopka, Fla.) has been named a member of the 2002 Verizon At-Large Academic All-America First Team by the College Sports Information Directors Association. She becomes the 32nd Lady Vol to be honored as an Academic All-American.
Montgomery, a 4.0 student majoring in microbiology, is a three-year member of the Lady Vol rowing team and has rowed with the varsity squad for most of that time. Her shell finished first in six races this spring including a gold medal in the Grand Finals of the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships. During the fall, Montgomery's boat was victorious in the Club 8+ portion of the Head of the Charles regatta, the most prestigious rowing event in the world. Due to these outstanding performances, she was selected as the team's Most Valuable Rower. Montgomery is a two-time All-South Region selection by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. In addition, she was recently named to the CRCA Scholar-Athlete team for the second-straight year.
Joining Montgomery on the first team are Shannon Bowles of Utah (Gymnastics), Sally Cantrell of Auburn (Gymnastics), Courtney Choate of New Mexico (Tennis), Gillian Cole of Maryland (Gymnastics), Julia Delich of Denver (Skiing), Stephanie Elm of Penn State (Fencing), Mandy Gorley of Western Illinois (Tennis), Theresa Kulikowski of Utah (Gymnastics), Erica Perkins of Washington State (Tennis), Stacy Prammanasudh of Tulsa (Golf), Jaimee Reynolds of Cornell (Lacrosse), Rachel Spiry of Nebraska (Rifle), Vladka Uhlirova of Texas (Tennis) and Katie Younglove of UCLA (Swimming).
