Handoyo and Toledo Earn All-America Honors

Tennessee seniors Peter Handoyo and Mario Toledo were named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-America team in singles Friday. The pair received the honor for finishing the season ranked in the top 20 nationally in the Omni Hotels rankings. The Tennessee tennis team finished the season ranked No. 6 after exiting the NCAA tournament in a 4-3 semifinal round loss to eventual champion USC.
Handoyo, who finished the season ranked No. 3, is receiving his third All-American accolades of his Tennessee career, making him only the fourth Vol to accomplich the triple. The season also included other deserving awards for the Indonesia native, including his fourth All-SEC selection, SEC player of the week twice, Region III Senior Player of the Year, All-NCAA tournament team (No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles) and the John Van Nostrand Award (a stipend given to a senior player who shows outstanding professional potential). Handoyo finished the season with a 28-3 record, which included an impressive 18-3 mark ranked foes. Handoyo, who won both the SEC singles and doubles titles this season, concludes his Vol career as the school's second-leading singles winner, with 145 career wins.
Toledo finished the season as the nation's No. 20-ranked player, which earned him his first All-America accolades while at Tennessee. The Florida native finished the season leading the Vols in wins with 33, and finishes his career at Tennessee with an impressive 52-20 record while spending most of his time at No. 2. Toledo, who was also named to the All-SEC singles first team this season, is Tennessee's 21st All-America selection. Toledo also finished ranked No. 26 in the final doubles rankings with partner Simon Rea.
Also named in the final rankings were sophomore Mark Dietrich, who finished at No. 82 and senior Adam Carey, who finished ranked No. 84. Dietrich finished second on the team in wins in 2002, finishing with a 32-18 record. Carey, who was named SEC tournament MVP and All-NCAA tournament (No. 2 doubles) this season, finished with a 20-10 record on the season, highlighted by wins in 10 of his last 11 matches.
