Vols Fall At Arkansas, 9-2

Fayetteville, Ark. -- Michael Conner slugged his 11th home run of the season as the Arkansas Razorbacks scored nine unanswered runs to defeat the Tennessee Volunteers, 9-2, and win the series at Baum Stadium two games to one.
Rob Fitzgerald (0-1), making his first career start, took the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits in 3 2/3 innings. He also contributed two hits and a sacrifice bunt as the DH and first baseman.
Brandon Hopkins also added two hits and a walk to pace the Vols who fell to 20-22 and 6-12 in the SEC.
A trio of Tennessee relievers, Dennis Gomez, Beau Massey and Jeffery Terrell, were roughed up for six runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Charlie Isaacson (2-5), who was touched for two runs in the first on a triple by Walter Sevilla and a double from Hal Bibee, struck out a season-high six batters in six innings en route to the win.
Scott Woods and Kyler Pomeroy provided three shutout innings of relief, while Scott Hode collected three hits to pace the 12-hit Arkansas attack.
Trailing 2-0, the Razorbacks (23-14, 7-8 SEC) tied the game in the bottom of the second as they loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batsman before scoring on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.
After Arkansas took a 3-2 lead on Scott Bridges' two-out single in the third, it added three more in the sixth on a sacrifice fly and back-to-back singles by Luke Weatherford and Ryan Fox for a 6-2 advantage.
They added an insurance run in the seventh when Jeff Fletcher scored on a sacrifice bunt by Kirk McConnell, and two more in the eighth on Conner's two-run home run to make it 9-2.
Tennessee returns home for a single game against Tennessee Tech, Wednesday, Apr. 24 at 7 p.m.
